11+ Practice Papers from Athey Educational

11+ practice papers are timed test papers that let children rehearse the style of question used in secondary school selection tests, including grammar school and independent school entrance exams. Athey Educational’s papers cover verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, maths and English, with packs for children aged 9 to 12.

For verbal reasoning, start with Test Pack 1, which includes an introductory paper covering all 40 question types. Non-verbal reasoning starts with Test Pack 4, maths with Test Pack 5 and English with Test Pack 6. For children aged 9 or 10 who haven’t seen this style of paper before, the introductory packs make a gentler first step.

Both versions contain the same questions. In the standard version your child writes answers in the paper; in the multiple choice version they record answers in a separate answer booklet. Many schools now use multiple choice, so check which format your child’s school uses, and order one version rather than both.

Non-verbal reasoning tests use shapes and patterns instead of words. Athey’s non-verbal papers cover analogic relationships, isomorphic relationships, serial relationships, matrices and codes, which are the skills children are most likely to need in selection exams. Each pack explains every question type.

Each test pack contains six practice papers, with answers or an answer sheet and general advice for parents. Standard verbal reasoning papers have 100 questions each, multiple choice verbal reasoning papers 60, and maths papers 70.
